I was born and raised in Moose Jaw and I am now raising my own family here. Moose Jaw really is the ideal size for safety and to have the necessary amenities, all with a short commute!

With a lifetime and career in fitness, injury rehabilitation and whole-body wellness, I have spent most of my last 10 years utilizing methodologies based heavily on functional fitness, influenced strongly by Opex methodology and brain-body connection.  I fully recognize that physical change happens on many levels; physical, mental and emotional.

Six years ago, as my own passion grew for helping others improve all aspects of their health and fitness, it became a natural fit to bring a full-service facility to my community, and I opened what is now Evolution Athletics.  I have since enjoyed helping hundreds of Moose Jaw residents Unleash their full Potential. As an athlete, I have excelled in fundamental strength and power movements and really enjoy the complexity and opportunity for lifelong learning that Weightlifting provides.

As a Coach my strength is in biomechanics, movement analysis and I specialize in behavior modification and leading clients through change.  As I've grown Evolution Athletics and the Team here, my passion has also grown to develop exceptional trainers and career opportunities in  the field of fitness.  I am so passionate about bringing quality systems to coaches and fitness businesses that I took on a temporary role with NPE, a global fitness-business coaching company, to work with other fitness business owners around North America to learn and help develop talent in their communities as well.

When athletes leave a session at my facility, I want them to feel empowered and confident in their own abilities. And if someone was ever hesitant to try us out, I would say that the first step is always the hardest, but that an amazing journey lies ahead if you are open and willing!

    My name is Cal Martens. I grew up in Elbow, SK, and moved to Moose Jaw in 2008. When I'm not Coaching, you can find me hauling Co-op fuel across the prairies. Aside from training and Coaching, I also enjoy mountain biking, playing guitar and video games, and building things from wood.

    Something most people might not know about me is that I rode Bareback Broncs for 6 years, winning Amateur of the year in Saskatchewan, and riding in the Calgary Stampede, both in 2003.

    I started lifting weights when I was 16 years old. I have always trained/lifted for a sport; first high school football, then rodeo, mountain biking, and finally Olympic Weightlifting. Sport seems to provide me a concrete goal and motivation for which to train and lift.

    As an athlete, my strength is my explosiveness -- I'm fast over short distances. And I try to be as consistent as possible. Consistency is key to any result, for me.

    I became interested in Coaching because I always enjoy helping people figure out a lift, or make progress towards their goal. Often when I learn anything, I gravitate towards wanting to teach it to others.

    As a Coach I’m very technically strong. I like helping athletes achieve proper form, modifying workouts to suit their needs, and designing programs for them. I also enjoy teaching training concepts to athletes.

    When clients leave a session with me, I would like them to feel that they learned something during the session, and that they have true understanding about why they did what they did.

    If anyone was on the fence about joining, I would tell them that Evolution Athletics is the best gym in town. From the knowledge of the coaches, to the fantastic and supportive community, you won't find a better place to meet your goals.

    Charmaine Collinge
    Weightlifting Coach

    Hello! My name is Charmaine and I grew up on a farm near Eston, SK. I moved to Moose Jaw in the fall of 2012 shortly after beginning my teaching career at Lindale School.

    I’ve always been an active person and have danced most of my life. I’ve been involved in a wide variety of activities as I truly enjoy jumping in and learning new sports.

    As an athlete, my biggest strength is my dedication and commitment to improving my performance. I’m a firm believer that you get out what you put in.

    Since teaching and coaching go hand in hand, it seemed only natural for me to start training others and share my passion for weightlifting with them.

    As a coach I’m a very positive and encouraging person. I’m always looking for ways to help an athlete improve and am personally invested in their progress.

    When you leave one of my classes, I want you to feel empowered. There’s nothing better than walking out and realizing you just did something you once thought you couldn’t do.

    Weightlifting Head Coach and Program Co-ordinator

    I have lived in Moose Jaw with the exception of one year for my entire life. I love this city, it has truly earned the reputation of being the "friendly city".

    After my first training session with my first lifting coach, I was so sore and blown away at how much athleticism it takes to learn and perform Olympic Weightlifting that it showed me my existing definition of strength was incomplete and that I had much to learn. I was hooked instantly and have been training and competing almost exclusively as an 'Oly' lifter ever since.

    As an athlete, I have the drive and mental focus to work hard on anything I put my mind to.

    Becoming a Coach seemed natural for me. When I used to train with a partner they always told me that I should be a personal trainer. When the opportunity came to take my NCCP Level One and Instructor Training Program through Evolution Athletics, I jumped on it immediately and never looked back.

    As a Coach I am very encouraging. As long as you try in my classes I will always support you 100%. I trust my athletes with the utmost respect and their results are very important to me, both mentally and physically.

    When you leave one of my classes I want you to feel stronger and full of confidence. And if you’re unsure, I would say “Just try once and you will be hooked. An Evolution Athletics workout is like none you've never experienced before. You will learn, laugh, lift and sweat.”

  • Brittney Bergen

    My name's Brittney Bergen. I'm an online coach and blogger at, and cohost of the podcast Projekt Possible.

    I played every sport growing up in Biggar, SK, but didn't really find myself athletically until I got under a barbell. I started CrossFit in 2012 when a friend introduced me to it after I did a bikini competition.

    As of December, 2015, I'm 12th on the list of the all-time top ranked female powerlifters in the country. I also compete at a national level in Olympic Weightlifting.

    I think one of my gifts as a Coach is that I see the best in others and want to help them realize it, and achieve big goals.

    I'm an auditory learner so I give great verbal cues. I also do a fantastic job of pushing athletes to perform better than they think they can.

    I want athletes to feel like they just got a glimpse into what's really possible for them, and that it's more than they'd ever imagined.

    Jonathan Loper
    Programming Coach

    I am currently studying Kinesiology and Education at Briercrest College in Caronport, SK. Although I live in Caronport now, I grew up in the little country of Nepal until age 11, and have a great appreciation for many cultures and perspectives.

    I have always been involved in athletics my whole life, and I love pushing my limits while training and I constantly desire to better myself in all aspects of life. What I appreciate even more is when I can help others succeed in their goals!

    As an athlete, my greatest strengths are my ability to focus and push myself on anything I set my mind and heart on, commitment to training, and a desire for continued improvement.

    I became interested in coaching, because whether I am teaching a new skill, improving the technique and execution of specific movements, or simply listening to how someone’s day is going, I love to encourage and affirm positive qualities in other people.

    As a Coach, I am detailed, thorough, and have a genuine love for people. I always try to see the best in people and help them realize their potential.   When a client leaves a session with me, I intend that they leave with increased confidence and a positive self-image for their future.

    Hi I'm Theresa. I am originally from Saskatoon and have been living in Moose Jaw since 2015. I teach Yoga in a few different places around the city. In my spare time I like to read, write, and hang out with my cat and dog. Something most people don't know about me is that I have a lifelong love for Canadian poetry.

    I've always been an active person, but came to Evolution Athletics at a point in my life when I was a bit out of shape and hoping to get stronger, leaner, and feel better in my brain.

    My strengths as an athlete are mostly body weight movement and control, but I'm getting better each day at weightlifting too.

    Teaching yoga was the introduction for me into other types of coaching. I wanted to start teaching yoga so that I could work in an environment that prevented me from becoming sedentary, and I wanted to share my love of movement with others.

    As a coach I love encouraging my students to do the best with where they're at that day, and provide a supportive atmosphere. When they leave a session with me I love seeing them smiling and hopefully feeling like they've learned something.

    If anyone was on the fence about joining Evolution Athletics, I would tell them that the program at Evolution Athletics changed my life.  I have never been in better overall shape, nor had I learned anywhere else how to eat properly for my body type. I am a different and better person because of the work owner Sharleen Froats puts into the programming, care, and attention that she provides to each and every one of her clients.
